Our Data & Methodology

How StreetKey Works

We combine open city data with trusted community reviews to generate street-level scores. Whether you're exploring a new neighbourhood or studying urban livability, scores are refreshed regularly as new data and shared experiences are added.

What the Scores Mean

Three core indicators, each measuring a distinct dimension of urban livability.

Safety

How safe does it feel to walk through this area, day or night? Derived from crash data, crime records, and community safety sentiment — so you can understand the real picture.

Vibe

What's the local energy like — are there shops, cafés, and restaurants nearby? Combines business activity, lighting, local reviews, and community voice.

Accessibility

How easily can people with mobility needs get around? We check wheelchair-accessible stops, sidewalk coverage, and civic amenity proximity.

This Is Not a Ranking

Each score is calibrated to city norms, so two neighbourhoods can score differently and still be highly livable in different ways. The goal is to give you context, not a verdict.

Persona-Based Weighting

Different personas highlight different priorities in the score, so the data speaks to your specific situation.

Default
Balanced weighting across safety, vibe, and accessibility.
Family
Places more emphasis on safety and accessibility.
Solo Traveller
Strongly emphasizes safety — ideal for solo female travellers.
Accessibility
Strongly emphasizes accessibility — for mobility-conscious users.

How Accurate Is the Data?

We work to keep our data as comprehensive, reliable, and representative as possible by combining city datasets with community input and processing everything through our calibrated algorithm. If something looks off, you can share your experience with us directly. We review submissions and update scores when appropriate.
